Beauty Tips for Prom Season | Raleigh, NC Senior Photographer

Prom Season Is Here!

I am so excited for prom season! Everyone is glamming up to look their best, and I get to be a part of it! My prom couples are some of my favorites that I get to photograph. It definitely makes me wish I was going to mine again! Now, prom has been going on for a while, but for you ladies (and gents) still waiting for your turn, read these tips to help relieve some stress and guide you on your special day.

1. Shine Bright

I always love a great highlight and shimmer - especially if I'm showing off a little bit of skin. For my ladies who love to show off their collarbones or are wearing a strapless gown, apply a shimmery lotion or highlight on the collarbone and neck area, and you'll be a shining goddess in no time. When I want to feel like a sun goddess at the beach, I use my Champagne Pop by Becca x Jaclyn Hill ($38) for a really definite glow or my e.l.f. Baked Highlighter ($3) in Blush Gems for a build-able and affordable look. Other recommendations are the Benefit High Beam ($26), NYX Sun Beam ($8), and Laura Geller Gilded Honey ($26).

2. Oil Control

You're going to be doing a lot of dancing (hopefully) at this thing, so keep oil blotting sheets and pressed powder handy. Laura Mercier's Loose Setting Powder ($38 & $23) comes in a travel size - perfect for when you're on the go. After applying your makeup, set it with a mattifying spray as well to prolong your makeup's longevity. I like to use Urban Decay's De-Slick Setting Spray ($30) because I tend to get oily, but a great alternative for prolonged wear is UD's All Nighter Setting Spray ($30) or NYX's Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray ($8).

3. Keep Those Pearly Whites Shiny

2-3 weeks leading up to prom, start using a whitening tooth paste and whitening strips. Avoid drinking dark sodas, coffee, or any other dark beverage that may stain your teeth. I recommend the Crest 3D Whitening Toothpaste. It's what I use to keep my pearly whites sparkling!

4. Lip Product and Lip Care

Gosh, this is one of the biggest mistakes girls make when going to a formal event or anything similar. They forget lip product! Even a little bit of tinted lip balm is better than dry, bare lips.  Before applying any type of product, brush your lips with your toothbrush or rub them together with sugar in between. This will exfoliate any dead skin cells and leave you with a blank, smooth canvas to work your lip color magic. My favorite products are both the ColourPop Ultra Matte and Satin Lips, Milani Matte Lip Creme ($9), and the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($6).

5. Blend, Blend, Blend!

Blend your foundation onto your ears and décolleté (lower neckline) to get an even color and to prevent red ears in flash photos. Blend your contour to make sure there are no harsh, streaky lines. Blend your blush to the apples of your cheeks, cheekbones, and temple to get a more natural flush. Blend your eyeshadow to prevent unwanted creasing. Blend, blend, blend until you can take a selfie with flash that looks flawless!

I hope this blog post was helpful and that you lovelies all have an amazing night at prom! I am still booking prom mini sessions, so don't hesitate to use the contact tab to reach me! Kisses!
